Joe Cobb is the youngest of the chicken catchers. His work buddies, a rough and rowdy gang of misfits, make Joe’s journey to self-recognition and manhood especially painful and challenging. It’s the early 1960’s, and Joe struggles to accept that his family, and the farm that is his base, are bleeding away… just like the eroding red soil on the hills of the Great Copper Basin where he lives.
“Little Joe” must balance working nights catching chickens, as he struggles to gain the acceptance of this crude-talking fraternity of poultry laborers. These dubious mentors will teach him many of life’s painful secrets much too early, as they transport him to the other side of adolescence. These are his memories of that unique and adventuresome journey.
